Neurodivergence in the Workplace

Being neurodivergent in today's workplace presents a unique challenge. Differences in communications, workstyles, morality and information processing can lead to a host of issues, even in generally healthy workplaces.

Tack on workplace toxicity to that mix, and you're facing workplace bullying, mobbing, and a general lack of support from those around you.

I support neurodivergent professionals who are expected to perform clarity inside systems that rely on ambiguity. I help them decode what’s really being asked, reduce unnecessary strain, and choose strategies that don’t require self-distortion.

Be You Portrait

For neurodivergent employees, this often results in:

  • being labeled “difficult,” “too much,” or “not a culture fit”

  • doing more emotional and cognitive labor than peers

  • receiving vague feedback with little guidance

  • gaslighting yourself when the system is the issue

It's tough because- no one actually tells you what the problem is- they just assume you should figure it out- which leads to more of the problems listed above, not less.

Why? Because if you're neurodivergent., you are operating with a different set of perspectives, tools, and lived experience that doesn't align with traditional social/workplace settings. You will alwyas be flagged as an issue- simply becauase you're different- and people are uncomfortable with differences.

Can We Thrive in Today's Workplaces?

The short answer is - of course! All is not lost.

However, it's important to find the right environments that allow your true self to thrive- without needing to fit yourself into society's small box. So, what does that mean?

  • Learning what your boundaries are, and how to communicate them

  • Learning to self-advocate for your needs

  • Learning to see your differences as assets (this will help you identify environments where you're likely to thrive)

  • Learning what really drives most workplaces

  • Learning neurotypical patterns and social expectations

  • Understanding how and why you may be a target in many workplaces
